Most Plants in ShadowBlood are close to, if not exactly the same as the ones that grow in reality. The exceptions to this are listed below.

Returrn to the ShadowBlood Universe

Herbs Etc HTML

Demon Weed: A hallucinogenic weed much like catnip. It only affects Demons and those of Demon ancestry. Among non Demons, it makes a very good tea and is used as a poultice to bring down swelling.

Numbroot: A short plant with broad, serrated leaves. The weeds themselves are crushed and applied directly to a wound to kill sensations and pain. It is an anesthetic. The roots produce a stronger numbing sensation and the more applied, the deeper the freezing effect. Too much can be uncomfortable, but it is a godsend when nothing else is available.

Elf Oak: A large species of Oak that Elves use to create candy. The bark, when boiled and allowed to harden, produces a sticky, crunchy sap much like caramel.
The bark itself becomes soft and chewy, much like fruit leather. When the tree’s leaves are added to the boiling bark, it gives the resulting candy a distinctive cherry-like flavor. The resulting candy can be soaked to produce an Elven version of Rum. The leaves are much like a normal oak with a distinctive acorn, but the leaves are a bright rust color with green interiors.

Sanguine: A medium sized bush where Vampires obtain their source of Vitamin C. Over the millennia, its berries have been genetically modified to increase protein levels and to improve flavor. The berries are the size of large blueberries, but juicier and with a distinct metallic taste. They are a deep, almost purplish red with few, if any seeds. Vampires and those with Vampire blood seem to be the only ones to appreciate this plant. Its products have been turned into teas, wine, juice and efforts are being made to recreate the plant into the Sang Plum.

Sang Plum: This small fruit tree is 100% genetically engineered. It started off as very tall Sanguine Bushes with extra large berries and after centuries of work, the plant is now a hardy, short (about 20 feet tall) tree that produces a sweet, metallic tasting Plum about the size of a Peach. It has a flavor reminiscent of Sanguine, but it is tangier and most non-Vampires have few problems consuming it. It’s leaves make an excellent, fruity tea while the wood makes for strong building.

Dragon Root: ShadowBlood’s equivalent to Dragon’s Blood. It is a stronger resin than our world’s counterpart and is produced by secretions from the plant's roots. When the secretions are dried, then ground up and applied to hot coals, it emits a distinctive, spicy scent.

Red Sage: Used primarily by humans to flavor their food. It is a stout, white haired plant with broad leaves. When crushed, the leaves have a lemony-sage scent. It is slightly bitter, but is excellent added to stews, soups, meats and meat pies. It’s greatest use, however, is for those who walk across dimensions. It controls, if not outright prevents cramping associated with cross dimensional travel. Walking cross dimensionally can warp an individuals’ internal mechanisms and Red Sage helps ease the discomfort as this happens. Sometimes it can help prevent the warping from happening.

Citrus Flower/Citrus Fruit/ Wide Flower: Also known as Vampire Repellent. It is a short, bright orange flower with n intense, Citrus flavor and equally Orange scent. Most Vampires like the plant, but it’s scent is particularly powerful.

Olde Rose: A rare species of rose so delicate that cutting one bloom will kill it. It takes a hundred years for the plant to flower. Vampires have a particular fondness for this plant and few nobles will not have at least one Olde Rose bush in their gardens.

Mutant Wake/Mutant Wode: Garlic. Vampires won’t go near the stuff. It smells so bad to them that they get ill and Dhampires, if it’s put in their food, can become nauseated from consuming it. It is a powerful deterrent and many non-vampire fans will plant it near their homes to hang up and dry in the fall when Vampires are at their most active.

Said one Vampire to another Vampire: "Gee .... without humans, life would kinda suck!"
