Meier and D meet again
(NB: In my universe, Meier and D are reunited by Conure, though she does it unknowingly. I dont know how this story
will turn out. If it turns out to be crap, at least I have the satisfaction knowing that I know what happened between D and
Meier. if it will make their characters more believable, so be it :-) . I feel really really sorry for Meier
right now!!)

Unplanned Engagements
Damian sat and stared out at the clearing before him, patiently waiting for his brother to arrive. His back was against the
rough bark of an Elf Oak, its orange and Green leaves dancing in the slight breeze. Immediately the approaching visitors
intentions materialized in his mind and Damian noted it in the mental log that all Morpheus were expected to keep.
One of the approaching minds registered clearly as his brother. Damian waved back mentally to his identical twin. Euclid,
in turn, sent him a mental whistle that announced all was safe. Damain lifted his head, attempting to see the approaching
riders, though he knew he could not see him as hard as he tried. They still had several more minutes before they would bee
seen. Realizing how futile his seeking was, Damian peered back at the female Dhampire and elegant, pale haired Vampire behind
him. The Morpheus cheerfully announced the riders arrival.
Euclid will be here in about five minutes. he said, his young voice resounding with confidence.
Conure looked up from her conversation with the Vampire and smiled.
Thanks, Dream Walker. she said, her characteristic smile wide on her face.
The Vampire turned to gaze back at his tree climbing companion, the Vampires red eyes soft as he studied the black cloaked
youth. Meier Links manner was quiet, like everything else about him, but it was etched with emotion. He could speak
books about something with a simple stare from his gentle eyes.
I wish you would tell me who your weapons instructor was. he said, returning his gaze to the slight Dhampire female
beside him.
Conure shrugged.
I wanted to keep it a secret. You introduced me to the Morpheus Twins and its only fair that I introduce you
to MY close friend. Besides, hes cool.
Meier Link chuckled, and returned his gaze to the cleared path behind them. Out of respect he was keeping himself shielded
from Conure. Her dragon form had been particularly trying the past several days and he knew that she would only get upset
if she knew that he was actively seeking her emotions. He knew she was taunting him, hinting at who this well known swordsman
was, yet she kept all emotions regarding his identity to herself. It was infuriating in a foreign way, but he let her tease.
It had been several years since he had last seen Conures round face and it had felt wonderful having her embrace his
mind and body like she had done before leaving. It had been too long since Draculas invitation. He missed the taste
of her body and her unbridled cries as he had pleasured her. He thought back to when she had left. The Vampire God was a mysterious
creature and for several, cryptic reasons he had asked Conure to live at his castle for a stretch. The story was that he wanted
her as his resident artist, but any detailed information extracted from Dracula had been suggestive. Meier would have followed,
but he had found permanent work as a noble and could not leave his post. How hed missed her! Now, after an eternity
in her absence, he felt the sweet and passionate touch of her mind against his. However, her old habit of hiding secrets blocked
out the telepathic connection he had from her. She had a new lover. Someone she accepted uncondionally but no matter how hard
Meier pressed against her locked mind, he could not find the identity of this stranger. He grunted mentally. As he waited
for Euclid to appear, he rested. He would find out who her new lover was soon enough.
When Damian jumped from his perch in the tree, Conure rose. Meier twisted to see Euclid leading his horse down the clean
path. Behind him a dark armored figure walked silently, his head held low and his wide brimmed hat spread out over his shoulders.
There was something familiar about the stranger. Meier scowled as he fought to recognize him. It rang of danger. Foreboding.
Someone who had the knife-like poise of a Hunter. The closer the figure walked the more familiar his form was. His emotions
were hidden behind the wall Meier had built up around his mind, but the form -the tall, slender, masculine form- became as
recognizable as the moon that was slowly rising in the darkening sky.
Anger welled up in the Vampires face and he growled. Euclid paused, alarmed, then Skittered out of the way when he saw
Meier poise for combat, his bone-like gauntlet sprouting out of the air as if pulled out of an invisible compartment.
You son of a BITCH! he howled and Meier shot off like a madman, sending Damian to bound out of his path.
Conure heard Meier scream mentally as his shields shattered. The fury and displaced hatred was not directed at her. She watched
in horror as the quiet lover she had known erupted into fury and his mind became laced with every intent to harm.
Ds head shot up at the cry. Instinctively he whipped out his sword and he was less than impressed to see an unexpected
adversity racing towards him. He managed to slide out of the path of the enraged Vampire and narrowly missed being sent sailing
through the air. He was shocked to recognize the face of the very Vampire hed been hired to hunt over two hundred years
earlier. There was a flood of emotion entering the Dhampires mind and he knew they were not his own. They mimicked the
very fight that D had fought with Meier. It was the same fight that had caused the vampire to lose his human lover and carry
her lifeless body to an awaiting ship. Grief. Hatred. Fury. A sense of desperate, lonesome abandonment. It all threatened
to override Ds logic.
D poised, ready defend himself from Vampires next attack. It didnt get that far. Meier suddenly found himself
flat on his back staring into the icy greenish eyes of a furious dragon.
Geeeeeeeze! Conure said into the Vampires mind. Whats gotten into you? She threw as much
anger and disappointment at the vampire empath as she could, while growling a unpleasant warning. Meiers response was
to struggle and shove her off. When he wrestled free, he stood, trembling, ready to fight again. He did not move, but the
wash of emotions was evident on his face.
Euclid and Damian, who had hopped into the spirit realm at the first signs of conflict, looked out of their shelter with fear
and concern on their faces.
Euclid nervously cleared his throat.
Um ...I take it you know each other? It was the biggest understatement of the year.
Conure went to Meier and shoved him hard with her nose.
What gives? she asked mentally, then shifted into her Dhampire form. The hard stare she gave both D and Meier
was enough to make the Vampire back down.
You bastard. Meier grumbled, swearing. His words were meant for the Dhampire. He dropped to his knees, his face
covered by his hand and gauntlet. He wailed mentally and when he pulled his hands away, the fury was even deeper on his face.
D tightened his stance a fraction, but when it was clear Meier would not rise, he slowly lowered his sword. It was held ready
if he needed to defend himself. D hadnt expected this spat but he was willing to strike if it meant defending his life.
Yeah. We know each other. The male Dhampire said, keeping his unflinching gaze on the Vampire.
You nearly killed me. Meier hissed, despair dripping through everyones minds. His voice was raw with unbridled
grief. Charlotte died. I didnt want it to happen. We just wanted peace. A life alone where we could love.
We let you live. D said, his tone plain. He crouched to look the Vampire in the face.
I had to bury her. Meier wailed. A hundred years I mourned and now you come back to haunt me. The
Vampires red eyes were cold with trepidation as he locked glances with D.
The two Morpheus and Conure watched the conversation with deep curiosity. Their heads bounced from Vampire to Dhampire
like they were watching a tennis game. Conure felt her words form in her mind, but they lodged in her throat. Finally, she
spoke.
Meier. I didnt know. I would have avoided this if I had known.
The Vampire tossed the female Dhampire a look of bitter resentment, but there was forgiveness in the same glance. He rapidly
resheilded his mind. He knew he had succeeded when Ds strained face softened and Conure nervously approached the pale
haired Vampire.
You know I wouldnt do this to you purposely. She said. She put her hands on his shoulders. You know
I would have warned you had I known.
Meier simply covered his face with hand and gauntlet. He remained in Conures embrace for several minutes. It was obvious
that he was crying, but no tears came and no gasps of emptiness escaped his lips. When he finally pulled his hands away and
lay them on the ground beside him, Conure gave him one last pat on the shoulder and allowed him to rise.
D had taken the liberty to sit in the clearing. Damian and Euclid still took refuge in the spirit realm and they nervously
exchanged glances while Meier rose. They watched as he and Conure exchanged words and Conure finally joined the others. Meier
remained behind, un armored hand covering his lowered face.
D ...Im so sorry. She began. She felt horrible. She had experienced Meiers grief after letting him
feed from her that first time and it had threatened to overtake her. She didnt know how the Vampire empath had survived
so long feeling the way he did. To know that innocently hiding Ds presence had brought out the rawness he kept so deeply
buried, made her feel almost as terrible as he did. She looked at D. He stared at her, angry, but the mental bond they were
beginning to share showed that he did not blame her for the situation.
He, She whispered. never told me it was you.
They sat in awkward silence for some time. Eventually it was broken by the sound of Meier approaching. His expression was
still strained, but he looked calmer. Conure shuffled over to give Meier room to sit. By now both twins had settled in the
physical realm and they watched everything in the typical Morpheus curiosity.
Meier closed his eyes when he sat down and he brushed his braided tangle of hair behind his ear before he spoke.
I apologize, D. he said quietly. His tone was firm and bitter. I cannot forget what happened. You spared
my life when Carmilla would not. There was a surge of emotion on his face, which was quickly forced away. He looked
the Dhampire straight in the eyes , his red eyes pleading. He then got up and walked away.

Meier was not seen until later the next day when he awoke from a restless slumber. His eyes were darkened from lack of sleep,
but the rings were rapidly fading as his body healed. He met D inside the stable as the Dhampire was entering to groom his
horse.
Hello D. The pale haired vampire said as D walked in the door.
The Dhampire looked up, shocked. Surprise was quickly hidden as he regained his composure.
Hello Meier. he said calmly. He went to the enclosure where he kept his horse and lay the reins and saddlebags
over the stall wall. He casually looked up at the Vampire, patiently waiting for him to speak.
The silence was broken by Ds horse pawing the straw with anticipation. D patted his horses neck and murmured a
chipper greeting before going to work on the creatures mane. D passed a casual glance over the horses shoulder
as he undid tangles in the cyborgs dark hair, hoping the Vampire would speak. When he did, it was full of buried sadness.
I hated you for a long time, Meier began, his eyes closing for the briefest of moments. I hated you for
what you represented. I guess... I guess I still do.
D could feel emotions welling in his own head. Depression, anxiety, bitter love gone wrong. Conure. Conure came up as its
own feeling and D laughed internally at its appearance. It was odd feeling his Student and lover coming up as an emotion in
its own right.
Some of his laughter must have been heard by Meier, as he looked at the Dhampire with an offended glower.
Its not you. D said, finally succumbing to the briefest of smiles. Its how you interpret Conure.
I never knew people could be emotions.
Meier forced himself to laugh. It felt like it was the first one in days.
It happens when youve loved as long as I have. he said politely. He stared at the straw and oats on the
floor, gently stirring them with his boots. He looked up at D again, this time with all traces of sadness wiped from his face.
I came here to apologize, he said firmly. And to call a truce. Ive had enough of this. Even for one
day. I know Conure meant the best for us when she didnt tell each of us the others identity. I know shell
be better if we-
Lay off eachothers back for a while? D interrupted.
Meier smiled again, this time more solemnly.
I wished an end to my suffering. It ends here.
Ds smile was brighter when it formed the second time and he pulled firmly on a knot in his horses mane before offering
his hand to the pale haired Vampire.
Truce. D said.
Meier grabbed the leather gloved hand and savored the Dhampires firm and confident shake.
Truce. he sad softly. For the first time he felt relieved and he sighed while hugging his memories of Charlotte.
Beloved. I will never forget you, but it cannot end in violence. I forgave the man who symbolized the end to our intimacy.
Can I ever forgive myself for what I drove you to do? Can you ever forgive me? Somewhere deep in the base of his soul
he knew and believed that she felt the same way he did. He swore that he could feel her kiss his presence and in a single
thought she said I forgave you a long time ago, Meier. It brought a touch of joy to his heart and with a single bow
he left, leaving D silently working on his horse.
